Why We Are Different

Personal Thoughts from a Staff Member

All of us at Serenity take great pride in what we do. What follows are some thoughts on the subject from one of our licensed technicians looking at it from 3 different viewpoints.

These are my thoughts on why Serenity Animal Hospital stands above and beyond other Veterinary hospitals.  I am writing this three fold:  first as a client, second as a licensed veterinary technician and third as an employee.

Client -  I am very proud to have any of the doctors at Serenity Animal Hospital take care of my pets.  I do have one of the finest, Dr. Michelle, looking after my crew.  Each doctor here is truly dedicated and caring and not afraid to take the time with each and every patient and client.  I was very pleased when I brought my pets in for vaccines and bloodwork last week, Dr. Hackel sat right down on the floor to meet and interact with my gang.

At previous hospitals I have worked at, most doctors scheduled 15 minute appointments whether they were vaccines or medicals and there were many times when I went into a room and the client asked “is the doctor done or is he/she coming back in?” or “I didn’t’ understand what the doctor was talking about”.

Our facility is one of the finest hospitals built.  The flow of patients into and out of the hospital runs smoothly.  Offering clients refreshments while waiting gives a personal and caring touch.

We extend to our clients the very best that veterinary medicine offers without compromising the patients care, which is the most important, and at a price most clients can afford even in these tough times.

Technician – I am so very proud to be able to utilize my technical skills here at Serenity Animal Hospital.  The Licensed Veterinary Technicians that we have on staff are of the very best; caring, experienced, dedicated, hard working and fun!  I am very proud and honored to be able to say that I had several of these technicians as my students when I taught classes at Macomb Community College.

I enjoy the respect that technicians received here at Serenity, not only by the doctors and staff but also by our clients.  As in past hospitals that I have worked at, most doctors did not view us as having completed school or passed our boards – we were just another body.

I enjoy the opportunity for continuing education, being able to learn on the job with each new piece of equipment, and I enjoy the opportunity to teach my skills to the Veterinary Assistants who are willing to learn.

Our Veterinary Assistant’s are the best!  I have never worked at a hospital where we had the benefit of experienced VA’s.  They are always willing to learn, lend a helping hand, have some fun, and go above and beyond their normal duties.

Employee – I must say this is the one and only enjoyable working environment in my career as a technician.  Even though we work long and sometimes hard days, it is relaxed and enjoyable.  The hours are great.  The benefits are above normal standards and again the opportunity for CE courses are endless.

Each and every one of us is looked at as a person – not just an employee number or statistic.

I feel everyone works well together during good times as well as stressful times.  In the past hospitals that I have worked at, some doctors thought they were better than everyone else, some technician’s thought they were better than everyone else, and even receptionists thought they were better than everyone else.

I appreciate the respect I receive from everyone and in turn I try to return that respect to everyone at Serenity Animal Hospital.

I find it inspiring that Dr. Karen opened her heart and her doors to take in survivors of Katrina and to be rescued from the hands of people who abuse animals such as Lornich Kennels.

You can build the biggest, most attractive hospital with all the “bells, whistles and toys”, but it won’t mean a thing without clients, patients or dedicated staff who truly care, which is what we have at Serenity Animal Hospital and Pet Resort.

This is why I feel Serenity Veterinary Hospital stands out as being the very best.
