Tick Season is Upon Us

Ticks are not only a nuisance but a danger to your pet's health as well. Ticks have eight legs and belong to the Arachnid family. Ticks are induced to attach to your pet when they pass in close contact to one situated on a blade of grass, bush, or tree branch. Once attached, a tick bites your pet and feeds on blood. Feeding from your pet is also an opportunity for transmission fo diseases from the tick to your pet.The most well know tick borne disease is Lyme disease, but there are others. Lyme disease is named after Lyme, Connecticut where the disease was first identified. Only the deer tick transmits Lyme disease.

You can kill attached ticks by using Frontline Plus spot on applications or spray.Ticks will be killed within 48 hours of attachment to your pet. Another option is using Preventic Collars for dogs to prevent attachment. We can also assist you in manual removal of ticks from your pet.

The best prevention for humans from ticks is to wear long-sleeved shirts and pants tucked into tall socks if you will be walking or hiking in tick endemic areas. Let's keep ourselves and our pets safe from ticks this year. Call us at Serenity if you need any help or advice on this topic.
